Black is a verb but only on earth
– exploring the power of imagery
Photographer: Jeffrey McIntosh
ABOUT THE WORK
This artistic research centres around ideas of the imaginary, what it does to dream, and to meet the surfaces of the world. Sandy Harry Ceesay tries to relate different things to each other using the power of suggestion and the context of performance. They derive their practice from the lived experiences of being part of the West African diaspora and the queer community. The research itself gravitates towards abstraction, particularity and articulation of words and ideas of racially charged imagery and narratives.
This worksharing concludes the artist's one week IN PROCESS residency leading up to the festival. The worksharing consists of a sharing of physical material followed by a feedback conversation, where you are invited to contribute to the conversation about the artistic development work; a conversation spurred by care and constructive feedback that makes the art sprout and grow.
